Bruce Almighty is a story of news reporter bruce. Bruce works as a campy and goofy onsite reporter interviewing people, and he finds this whole job of entertaining people, and demeaning oneself in front of complete strangers, very tiring and unsatisfactory. Things reach an hilt, when a colleague is promoted to the job of the news reader over him. He freaks out, live on TV has loses his job.
Bruce, starts blaming and more blaming God for all the misfortunes happening to him, which even upsets his wife Grace, a bit. Finally, things change when one day he is callled by God, and is granted a new ‘job’. That of being ‘God’.
With the newly acquired powers of God, bruce spends all his time, improving his own life by manipulating events. He starts by getting his job ( by tricking a dog into finding a dead body ), gets back his job ( again by creating scenes with his god powers ), and finally makes it into the TV news reader job. But trouble brews, as he fails to understand with his power, granted to him were responsibilities. Not having the patience to handle the responsibility, that of answering people’s prayers, He takes the short cut and grants everybody his wish.
All of this manipulations, lead to catatostrophe, in the whole and in his personal life as well, when his wife leaves him. Crushed, and realizing the fact even God cannot mess with free will, he stops being God, and decides to repair the damage he has done. He stops misusing his powers, and starts to understand that miracles do not happene, rather that people create miracles for themselves. As a payoff, grace come backs to him, and Bruce get backs to being what he really. A goofy, campy on site reporter who makes complete strangers laugh.
Jim carry, knows for his overacting humor, but in this movie, he is more of a comidian. The topic of the movie does itself to overacting, and unlike his other movies, this movie has much more meaning, and message. Some people, may not like the idea of a human being having power of god, but the movie does not in any way disrespect god, but actually gives an insight, that god is the not the one who creates miracles, it is that all of us create miracles for ourselves, if we want to.
